Body Dysmorphia Quotes For Self-Esteem

Body Dysmorphia Quotes To Help Build
Confidence And Self-Esteem.

In our previous article, A Simple Guide To Understanding Body Dysmorphic Disorder, we explored the nature of BDD, how to recognize and address it, and the positive impact of quotes in alleviating symptoms when triggered by Body Dysmorphia.

At Olyinka Lingerie, our commitment to raising awareness of Body Dysmorphic Disorder comes from our firsthand experiences with the women we meet every day. Through these conversations, we often witness various body image issues that are rarely openly discussed, despite the fact that a majority of women unfortunately experience them. BDD as a mental health issue remains largely unnoticed, leaving individuals to suffer alone without proper recognition.

That's why we've decided to write a series of articles about the disorder. We want to break through the silence surrounding BDD and encourage more open conversations, so that individuals can find the healing they need.

What Is Body Dysmorphia?

Body Dysmorphia is a condition in which an individual has a distorted body image of themselves. These body issues can be activated by viewing oneself on camera, in mirrors, or prompted by feedback from other people. Some common symptoms of body dysmorphia include:

  • Continual comparison to others.

  • Self-doubt due to perceived flaws.

  • Anxiety over one's physical presence.

  • Wearing excessively baggy clothes to hide one's body.

Treating body dysmorphic disorder usually involves both therapy and self-care practices, however a very effective method is reading inspiring quotes, which can help reset negative thought patterns, build self-esteem and increase confidence. Incorporating inspiring quotes into your day-to-day life is beneficial to managing symptoms of BDD.

Body Dysmorphia: Steps To Healing

Low self-esteem can significantly affect those struggling with BDD. Finding inner peace with your physical appearance is a continuous process rather than a fixed goal, and it begins with taking small steps every day to become more aware of your thoughts, emotions, and actions that leads to those negative triggers.

As you go through this process of healing, practice patience and allow yourself time to learn and grow more about yourself. When feeling stressed or down we advise doing the following:

  1. Spend a few minutes practicing deep breathing or mindfulness. Pay attention to your body and how you're feeling in the present moment.

  2. Start to embrace your imperfections and accept yourself as you are. Easier said than done, we know, but reinforcing the idea that there is no perfect body is key, and then proceed to discover unique qualities and characteristics about yourself and to celebrate them.

  3. When negative thoughts arise,  recognise  them, however torrid, and then release them in addition to any past burdens that may be attached. Treat yourself with kindness, as you would your friend, and be gentle when you make mistakes, all of which can help alleviate symptoms.

  4. Focus on the positive aspects of life and be grateful for the blessings already present. Cherish every moment, even the small ones. This method is about switching your focus from those negative thoughts to positive uplifting ones.

  5. Most importantly, don't be afraid to ask for help when you need it. Talk to a friend, family member or therapist. Speak to your local GP, or refer yourself directly to the NHS psychological therapies service (IAPT) without a GP referral.
