7 Self Care Tips During Self-Isolation

In a space of a few weeks the Coronavirus (COVID-19) had the world adjust to new ways of living and operating, and as a result most of us are in quarantine or self-isolation.

This has been a dramatic lifestyle change that we've had to adjust to quite quickly, and if we are to outlast this period, we will need to adapt to this new normality for now, if anything, for the sake of our mental health and future.

In our newsletters, we are constantly discussing ways how you can improve and evolve your body, mind, soul and spirit in challenging times. How they impact you, how you should react to them, and most importantly how you can leverage challenges so that it doesn’t affect you negatively.

“How you approach this pandemic will
be no different from how you would approach the normal challenges of life. And if you get this right, it will be the making of you.”

For the optimist, the futurist, it is a woo-sah moment, an opportunity to stop, recharge, heal, get engaged and plan for the future, on the other hand, this could be the worst thing ever, and to be honest both responses are ok. So what do you do now?

1. Don’t Panic!

The worst thing you could do is panic.

Just take time to stop, take a step back and try to be calm. We understand this may be hard, but for any challenge to be dealt with effectively and quickly. calmness is necessary. Being quarantined or in self-isolation will be a challenge for all of us, but use this time to get grounded, observe and make decisions accordingly.

2. Switch Off News And Social Media.

We don’t mean completely, but be warned, there will be a lot of propaganda, hearsay and conspiracy surrounding the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and to be honest a lot of it is bullshit, so we advise selecting a few reputable news sources to gather information and let that be your lot. If you receive any WhatsApp conspiracy messages, delete them. Unfollow people who are unnaturally obsessed by this situation and who are releasing negative information. Be strict with your time and what you mentally consume, because all information whether negative or positive will leave a cognitive imprint, and your goal is to cultivate a healthy mind during this process of change.

3. Adopt A New Routine

Being in self-isolation is great for the first week, but then groundhog day sets in and the walk to the fridge is now your daily commute. If this is the case, we advise adopting a routine for your day. We love Hannah Bronfman’s work schedule, which you can recreate to suit your day. Having a routine will provide structure to your new way of living and keep your body, mind, soul and spirit active which should be your goal during this period.

4. Exercise And Get Some Fresh Air.

It is essential that you keep your body moving and healthy. Youtube, facebook and Instagram are your friends, there are a gazillion fitness videos on the internet for you to choose from, all free, so you have no excuse. You can also run and walk outside as long as your adhere to social distancing rules. Just keep your body moving.

“Before the pandemic, most of us were operating in a sleep-like state, not paying attention to the signs and signals of change. But now, Coronavirus has made us all wake up.”

5. Learn Something New and Skill Up!

You may feel like you are in limbo at the moment. Businesses are at a standstill, you may be working from home, home-schooling, or unemployed. Whatever your circumstance, use this time as an opportunity to learn a new skill. With the distractions over the last few years of elections, wars and rumours of wars, and now the Coronavirus (COVID-19), people are forgetting that we are now in the digital age. Are you ready? Do you have the necessary skills to adapt to this new age once the virus has subsided? No? Then use this time to sign up to an online course and improve your skills. Leverage this time so that when you emerge from this period, you are prepared and ready for the new and exciting digital age.

6. Be Forward-Future Thinking.

This may be difficult to do in these uncertain times because you may be thinking like many, that the virus may be the beginnings of Armageddon, the Apocalypse, End Times, pick any doomsday event. But this is definitely not the time to think doom and gloom, but to think about the future and the world we are about to enter. What will this new world be like? How will it fit into your life and how will you plan for this? As hard as it may be right now, try not to fear or be anxious, stay vibrationally high, adapt and plan for your future.

7. Meditation and prayer are your friends.

If you believe in a higher power, use this time to connect, this will be your guide on how to successfully navigate your life in this time of change. For the atheists, and agnostics, meditation and connecting to your inner self is key, make time to do this daily. Stay grounded through meditation and prayer, these are powerful tools and will support you in these uncertain times.

8. Join A Community

We love how this crisis has brought people together especially through digital and virtual connections. Self-isolation has moved the majority of the globe into the digital space. The shift has been made, people are now working from home, making connections online, joining online groups, so there is no excuse to be alone in this time. Make it your goal and intention to connect with others online. who have similar interests to your own and will encourage and empower you through this time and beyond.
